WATCHDOGPublic stream early warning

How Watchdog works

Watchdog forecasts when a stream is vulnerable, asks the people already there to look, and keeps a person in charge of every warning.

What we do

  • Forecast 72-hour Watch windows from weather, river flow and each site’s habitat.
  • Ask the people already at the stream to look and report in 30 seconds.
  • Let a coordinator review every signal and approve every public word.
  • Send approved events to health services in the HL7 FHIR standard.
  • Link each season’s risk to restoration, such as planting shade along the banks.

What we never do

  • Detect toxins or measure water quality — we flag when a professional should look.
  • Diagnose people or animals. Animal reports are owner observations.
  • Collect human illness data.
  • Publish any warning without a person approving it.
  • Call a stream “safe”. We say what to avoid, and for how long.

AI transparency

AI only drafts advisory wording, which a coordinator edits and approves. It never scores risk, decides or publishes.
